Reminder: ANZAC Day Carnival CATS v Rupertswood tomorrow at Tony Clarke

24 Apr 2019 by Ash Cook

Hi All,
As many of you know Macedon Senior Club hosts an Anzac Day game against Rupertswood every year with heavy involvement and support from the junior club. Importantly we use the day to raise funds for the Commando Welfare Trust. The trust provides assistance to families of Commando’s killed or wounded in action and every year we host current and ex-serving Commandos as well as other current and ex service personnel at the game.
This year we are ramping up our efforts and have added an additional event to the card. At half time we are hosting the inaugural RDFNL Anzac Day inter-club 120 meter sprint – same distance as the Stawell gift. Two races, one for U17’s and one for Seniors. Each club is invited to field one player per race wearing club jumper.
The race will be named in honor of, and commemoration of Victoria Cross and Medal for Gallantry winner Corporal Cameron Baird and called “The Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG Memorial Gift”
Cameron was an outstanding footballer who played junior football in the Riddell League and for the Calder Cannons. Cameron’s family is thrilled that the race will be named in his honor. “Cams Cause” another charity set up to assist commando’s who have returned from active service will also be involved on the day and have kindly donated two bronze sculptures as trophies.
The prize will be $500 for the senior race sponsored by Premier Office Furniture, with an equal donation of $500 to the Trust. There will be a $250 prize for the U17’s sponsored by the Macedon Junior’s.
We will have donation points for the trust at the gate, canteen, bar and barbecue. Each year we have an auction after the game to raise funds. for the trust and if anyone in the junior club feels they could support the auction with items valued over $100 these would be greatly appreciated.
We will also have Auskick and U9’s running around on the paddock at half time. It would be great for the junior club to put on a show of strength and support on the day so hope to see you down there there with club colors on.

Cheers,

Nick
